Starbucks Card Hummingbird

This may be the best part of this special Starbucks card.
It's special because it supports the students of the
tsunami affected areas for higher education.

Starbucks Japan is cooperating with
to provide funding for orphaned children of the
Great Eastern Japan Earthquake
who wish to further their education.

All of the orphaned children are included in this fund
which will provide for the children
until they are all of age.

And Starbucks Japan made this card so
customers could also take part in this project.

The Starbucks Card Hummingbird design is
based on the story of the hummingbird,
a tale that is told in the Andes about "doing what you can."
(you can read the story here.)

In the design you can see the hummingbird
carrying the warm thoughts (hearts) that come
from a cup of coffee.
Also, all the paper used for this program,
such as advertising posters or card envelopes
are produced by paper mills and
printing factories in the Tohoku region.

Tokyu Plaza Omotesando Harajuku (東急プラザ表参道原宿店)

This Starbucks store is located on the 6th floor of
Tokyu Plaza Omotesando Harajuku,
a large-scale retail building that just opened this spring.

Not only is this store spanking new
but it also has all the works,
including the clover.

There's also a really neat screen from ceiling to floor
with a huge siren logo on it on one wall.

There are a couple of seating areas inside the store
so it's pretty spacious.

This store also has a bakery corner and
a special sandwich plate menu
which most stores don't have.

One corner of the store has a map drawn on the wall
of the surrounding area where the store is.

What's also nice about this store is that
it is connected onto a roof patio.
With all the trees and shade,
it's a great spot to relax in the middle of the city.

Fujikawa Service Area (富士川サービスエリア(下り線)店)

We stopped at another service area in Shizuoka Prefecture.
It's a really long prefecture and took forever to drive.

It had pretty wall art hanging outside.
And a rock with the name of the service area engraved on it.

Behind the store was a great view of
the river and the freeway that we were on.

Shizuoka Tumblers

We learned that this Starbucks store is super awesome
because you can actually see Mt Fuji from here!

Unfortunately though, when we were there
it was too cloudy below to see it.
Bummer.

But the view from the large windows
were impressive just the same.

EXPASA Ashigara Service Area (EXPASA足柄サービスエリア(下り線)店)

This is the Ashigara service area on the Tomei freeway.

My sister and I were heading down south
and we took a little break here on our roadtrip.

Shizuoka Prefecture is famous for Mt. Fuji.
Looks like they're really proud of it, too.
